Director: Terry Gilliam
I was told by one of my tutors to watch this, as this is the source for Munchausen's syndrome - a form of multiple personality syndrome. The theory being that this will provide a basis for my study, an umbrella term for my project.
First off this is an awesome film just to see the set and costume design, it is truly mammoth, and having read the background to the production it went grossly over budget both financially and chronologically. Check out this trailer to capture the fun and imaginative style of the movie. Similiar to the illustrated books that I took out from the AIB library, Gilliam captures the colourful and fantastical tales in pure imaginative style. You would expect no different from a man associated with Monty Python films. There is also a chance to catch an early Uma Therman show.
As mentioned the visuals are truly inspiring, and an early idea could be to re-design the DVD cover or poster. However, a less obvious idea could be to document certain people, read into certain stories they tell, or even document their day in a fantastical way such as Gilliam does with the Barons tales. One thing the film does do is, other that confuse and entertain, is make me want to construct something physical to express my ideas.
Theory wise it is interesting to see how far you can take someone's lies. How far from the truth can you take a simple illusion?
